Columba

Columba started out as a solo project in Sant Andreu de Palomar, and along the way of bringing more people on board, the word "project" got too small for them: now they're a band, with everything that implies — shared foundations, and a whole new set of questions. The first one was exactly that: who do we want to be now that there's more than one of us? — and it's still chasing them. With the EP 'Dimarts Kebab' (2025) they showed their first feathers: city rats, contradictions and headaches told with humor and "prr prr" as their battle cry, a pigeon that still refuses to settle for life in a cage. Now Columba release 'En obres', their debut album, arriving with the foundations still fresh and the scaffolding in plain sight.

'En obres' is signed by Martí Ferrer Argemí (music for the whole record, and lyrics for most of the songs), Alba Clavell Gallardo (lyrics for the tracks that bookend it: the opener, the title track and the closer), and Joan Palà Granado on drums, production and mixing. Rounding out the lineup are Pau Castellví on guitars and Alejandra Sáenz López on mastering, who also plays bass. Musically, it all comes down to songs: the raw material is singer-songwriter craft in band form, where the organic stands out among digital and synthetic textures that wrap the production in something austere and delicate, somewhere between singer-songwriter pop and pop rock. Nine songs about turning thirty with no one guaranteeing you a blueprint: unstable jobs, rents that don't add up, information overload, and wars that feel far away even as we breathe in their smoke. 'En obres' grew out of a poem by Alba that gives the album its title and sums up its whole argument: we'll never be finished, and maybe what we need to learn is to enjoy the renovation instead of waiting for it to end. Across the album's nine tracks there's room for a love still under construction ("No t'acabo"), for the pride and nostalgia of turning thirty ("+ 30"), for the same city anxiety they already flagged on "Dimarts Kebab" and that resurfaces, with a knowing wink, on "Harmonia", and for a "Fes-te fotre" that splits the record in half with a burst of humor: all they want is to live, fully, speaking their own language. The single "Udols", inspired by the French series "El Col·lapse" (2019), pictures a group of people getting ready and organizing for the moment everything blows up — which, look closely, is just another way of talking about the same thing.

Because if 'En obres' makes one thing clear, it's that being under construction — scaffolding, cracks, blueprints that never stop changing — also means being alive. And that the network holding them up — the people who show up when the foundations start to shake — is, in the end, the only foundation worth having.
